While they have some art to them, owning extreme luxury anything would not be for me because of the care and fear of what costly things might go wrong. I find more appealing four valves per cylinder head with the valve stems 45 degrees from horizontal because the ratio of cross sectional opening area to cylinder diameter is maximized, even outdoing the historical Chrysler and Pratt and Whitney radial engine hemispherical cylinder head. I also like the diminished valve train mass of over head cams which I would like to see gear driven. But the simplicity of electric power appeals to me for a future car I doubt I will ever own because I don't last long enough in the low paying jobs not always available to me so I use a very thoroughly customized bicycle. I don't know how to send you a picture of it but as a restorer I think you and your staff would be very amused if they could see it.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17890807633225377278noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2906463626789064900.post-72753030776307427532021-06-11T21:15:09.144-04:002021-06-11T21:15:09.144-04:00Dear John: I will never forseeably be able to &qu...Dear John: I will never forseeably be able to "afford" even the better, cheaper-to-maintain 2006 & later Bentley GTs. while you may not want to, could ALL of the Vw-bentleys be "fixed" with a "system-replacement", Knowing that would "Trash" the residual-value of the unit on the "previously-owned" market? I have a Fiat-Abarth, which I LOVE, and yet there's not enough Space to fit a Bentley, "Mineral-oil" suspension on it, if I desired it, and yet, it would be "good" to travel over speed-bumps, which I believe the system allows, without losing control of my Fiat. what could I use to fit to my Fiat-Abarth 500 Cabrio, so hitting a speed-bump won't destroy a shock-absorber{as has happened in the Past}. I am Retired Ex-military, living on a fixed-income, and my Fiat-Abarth is my one vehicular-indulgence. Thank-You Very Much, for light shed on this issue. Could you give me the name of the insurance company with insurance rates like that?
During the height of the COVID-19 Pandemic I had several cars that were never on public roads, they were exercised on the roads on my own property and I still could not secure any form of Collector Car Insurance on them without paying for liability coverage as well, which is completely unnecessary when there is no one else operating a vehicle there to have a collision with, or to incur any other form of liability from this monthly vehicle exercising program. As with all of my cars, the collector cars were always stored inside of a building, and behind locked gates. Pretty much a ripoff as far as I was concerned.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01758689823909849188noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2906463626789064900.post-43939086281540677492021-05-08T09:22:08.385-04:002021-05-08T09:22:08.385-04:00Hey bentley owners I'm experiencing a problem ...Hey bentley owners I'm experiencing a problem with my 2008 gtc convertible my problem is that when I have my top down when driving sometimes over these streets riddled with potholes and deep manhole covers on three occasions my fault light comes on and I cannot close my top this only happens when the top is down I took it to the bentley dealer and he repaired it and stated that one of my sensors were bad after fixing it for seven hundred dollars within 2 hours it happened again they came and picked the car up I was told that he reset the system fault and that I would need to replace the top, my top has no holes on either side but I did notice that there are straps that appear to be loose and or stretched do you think that I should replace all straps is that a good start? Since...I first posted re this problem back in 2013. Since then, I have contacted Bentley directly and through authorized dealerships in both Fort Lauderdale, FL and Toronto Canada. The answer was always the same - we have not heard of this problem. Given the fact that I have seen at least 5 cars myself with the exact same problem and heard of many others - this is simply not believable and appears to be total stonewalling.

I then found a Field Bulletin on the NHSTA site where Bentley actually does recognize the problem and gives detailed instructions as to repair. Follow the link below:

https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2016/SB-10091063-5448.pdf

Incredibly, it tells dealers to fix the problem but THERE IS NO NEED TO TO INFORM CUSTOMERS DIRECTLY. When I confronted Bentley with this through their authorized dealer, I was informed that my car was not covered as it was originally sold in New York state and the campaign only covers cars sold in hot climates such as California, Florida, the Middle East, and a number of other places. This despite the fact that my car was usually driven in Florida (backed up by service records from the dealership in Fort Lauderdale).

I have never witnessed such a reluctance by any manufacturer to own up to their problems and attempt to satisfy their customers - especially when one is talking about a luxury product such as a Bentley.

I will be unloading the car within the next couple of weeks and although it runs perfectly and is in otherwise in perfect shape - from the offers I've received so far, I will probably have to settle for a very deeply discounted price. Good luck getting me to buy another Bentley product in the future. I have also talked several of my associates out of purchasing Bentleys due to my experience and the response (or lack thereof) from Bentley.

Finally, as an aside, this pattern seems to be common amongst other divisions of Volkswagen. I also owned an Audi TT convertible on which the servo motors for the roof flaps seem to fail at least once a year. Once again, the manufacturer fails to recognize that repeated and frequent failures are a result of a design flaw and no assistance is offered. So once again, though I love the cars, I will be hard pressed to purchase another.

Is anyone seriously considering a class action lawsuit especially since the Service Bulletin clearly indicates that despite what many of us werte told, Bentley has in fact been aware of the problem for several years?Bentley Ownerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08672593763516693698noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2906463626789064900.post-29756921087412567292020-08-03T09:26:38.329-04:002020-08-03T09:26:38.329-04:00Thanks for your comments. Recently while driving to work on the interstate I struck and ran over something that fell from the under carriage of a semi truck that was driving in front of me.

The object struck the front bumper of my truck and then impacted my undercarriage causing a loud booming sound.

I pulled off to the shoulder of the interstate to assess the damage to my truck. My truck was quickly loosing fluid. I had my truck towed to a local repair shop which was still closed amid covid 19. I notified my insurance and opened a claim to which I was asked to take photos for the adjuster handling my claim.

In doing to I noted damage to my front license plate, multiple deep gashes on the oil pan and a cracked transfer case. I noted impact marks on both the oil pan and transfer case.

I just received a message from the insurance adjuster stating he inspected my truck, he noted the license plate damage, then proceeded to state he did not observe impact marks when inspecting the undercarriage and proceeded to say that what I heard was a mechanical issue of some sort, never acknowledging damage to the transfer case. For some odd reason the adjuster made a point to state he observed recent work done to my radiator and and again insinuated the issue and damage was mechanical.

This is extremely insulting to me for many reasons. First I observed with my own eyes the object that I hit. Second I also observed what appears to be impact marks on the undercarriage. Three I have had the truck for 2 years now and haven't had any issues with it not has there been any radiator work done to it.

I'm trying to get some guidance on how to proceed, it's blatantly obvious my insurance is trying to skirt covering the damage sustained to my truck. I have full coverage and have never made a claim. I would truly appreciate any information on how to proceed and or dispute the adjusters assessment... thanks in advance..
